Absences, We Are
sculptures_2024
Limestone. 50cm high.
Just as water and wind sculpt millennial stones, we too are molded by the forces of our environment, experiences, and interactions.
Continuing with my previous research studying the limits of the stone as a parallelism with our human nature, these pieces emerge from a very experimental process where I wanted to push the boundaries of stone in a very different direction than conventional stone carving.
I was intrigued by the transformation of stone through fragility, absence, and void.
Fascinated about the idea of “melting stones” and experimenting with acid, after hundreds of experiments on material and shape, I developed a quite new technique. In these sculptures, I transform the solid materiality of heavy stone blocks into a fragile state, capturing life’s constant evolution and the essence of our journey through time.
